Hi Julie, and a warm welcome to the forum, though I`m sorry you have been diagnosed with RA. Most of us on here have either been on, or are presently on, methotrexate, as it is almost always the first drug of choice for most rheumatologists, so I hope it brings good results for you. Are you taking folic acid alongside it, and having your bloods monitored? I`m Kathleen, live in Durham with my husband. We have two grown up sons and two little grandsons. Take care, Kathleen x

Hi Julie
Sorry to hear you have RA, I am a newbie too, just got diagnosed in August, my advise is don't worry.
I myself got myself into a bit of a state before starting MTX & Folic Acid, with all the side effects, but I have been taking them for about 5 weeks now, yes I got a bit of nausea and my Consultant told me to increase my Folic Acid, of which my nausea has gone. (fingers crossed), now take 1 tablet for 3 days afterwards.
I have now started taking Hydroychloroquine, twice a day, started taking them last weekend, so far ok. but so im told I will not feel effects of these tablets for a few weeks... So I am still waiting to feel better.....
At present I am having 2 weekly blood tests done.
Also just had a Flu Jab, which you need to ask for.
If you have any fears just ask on here, there are a lot of experienced members on here that have had RA for a long time, and they are the best advisors.
I am 53 and I live in Sunny Suffolk have 2 sons and 2 and 1 bump grandchilren, who keeps me busy.
Looking forward to chatting to you in the future, and don't worry.
Take Care & Best Wishes Lorraine x

Hi Julie,
Sorry about your diagnosis but this is a great place for help, advice and support.
I was just diagnosed in March, 40 years old with 2 wee boys of 7 and nearly 10 (he will be this Sunday).
I'm on methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine. The only problems I have encountered with the metho is the nausea and indigestion but it is improving with time, taking folic acid 6 days out of 7 and drinking lots of water.
Speak to you soon
Lisa x

Hi Julie - well done for getting started on the MTX. It takes a couple of weeks to feel the benefit. Hope the tiredness and other symptoms soon wear off for you. I had mine reduced to 10mg in Feb as I kept getting abscesses and 2 lots of shingles, but it needs to go up to 15 again to try to tackle the raging inflammation!!
Keep posting and let us know how you get on xx Ailsa
